WOLF RUN TRAIL

From 2013 to 2014, CCL Consulting was project manager for Wolf Run Association, a Mazomanie WI-based 501(c)(3) non-profit established in 2012 as lead organization in a comprehensive, $1 million effort to improve Lake Marion, Lower Black Earth Creek, and build Wolf Run Trail.

The two-mile, multi-use recreational trail connects the Village of Mazomanie and Wisconsin Heights High School and is the first constructed link of a regional trail network envisioned to connect Mazomanie to both Middleton and Devil’s Lake State Park. Project partners included the Wolf Family, the Village and Town of Mazomanie, Wisconsin Heights School District, Dane County Parks Department, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR), Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Wisconsin & Southern Railroad, Natural Resource Conservation Service, Madison Community Foundation, and Natural Heritage Land Trust.

My project management responsibilities for Wolf Run Association included:

  • Act as project liaison and primary contact for partners and stakeholders during multi-agency planning and approval process.
  • Manage fundraising program, including successful grant applications to WDNR ($45K) and Madison Community Foundation ($50K), and local community campaign ($15K to date).
  • Implement and manage critical paths/milestones and monitoring mechanisms for project.
  • Manage internal and external project communications, including stakeholder reports and presentations, project website, media and public relations.
  • Assist project landowners in overseeing trail construction activities.
  • Manage project scope, budget, cash flows.
  • Explore potential trail extensions with other local communities, organizations.

"Christopher is a skilled project manager with a keen attention to detail. He is a very effective communicator and leader. His work on the Wolf Run Trail was absolutely critical to the success of the highly complex project. He coordinated the efforts of many individual partner organizations to plan and construct a 2 mile bike and pedestrian trail that required wetland and riparian permitting, special consideration for listed species, grant writing, private fundraising, construction contracting, and coordination among federal, state, county, and private conservation easement rules and regulations. It was a monumental task that likely would not have succeeded without Christopher's skills." Caleb Pourchot, Conservation Specialist, Natural Heritage Land Trust, Madison, WI
