Lake MARION RESTORATION
For more than 150 years, Lake Marion has been an important environmental and cultural resource for the Village of Mazomanie and Dane County. From 2014 to 2016, CCL Consulting was Project Manager for the Village's restoration of the 16-acre former millpond, initiated in 2009 with the decommissioning of the Mazomanie dam. In 2014 and 2015, the Village made significant capital investments toward ensuring Lake Marion's future:
• Created a new permanent water supply for Lake Marion through construction of a high-capacity well and pump.
• Made major improvements to substantially reduce lake seepage and minimize the well pumping needed to maintain adequate water depth for a family recreational fishery .
• Planned a comprehensive fishery restoration and healthy lake project during spring 2015. I coordinated the Village's successful application to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for a $47,250 grant toward the costs of the restoration project.
These improvements implement a community vision to preserve and maintain Lake Marion as a family recreational fishery for future generations. In combination with the restored lower Black Earth Creek and new Wolf Run Trail, it will enhance the quality of life for local residents, attract visitors and potential new residents, and provide a boost to local businesses and the regional economy.
My management responsibilities for the Village included both the planning and implementation phases of the project:
• Organize, manage community-based project plan development process
• Act as project liaison during multi-agency plan review and approval
• Manage pre-construction planning and logistics
• Develop, implement critical paths/milestones and monitoring mechanisms
• Coordinate project communications, media, public relations, including social media
• Manage municipal project budgeting, other public and private fundraising
• Provide on-site supervision during construction
• Manage project scope, budget, cash flows
• Post-construction project administration
